I got a bass that came from factory with the ultralight bass X-Tender. If I wanted to swap it for a regular USA ultralight, would I need to drill new holes on the back on my headstock to mount it? Or do they use the same hole?

Put it this way…they can use the same holes, but for me the XTender sits slightly crooked if you use the same holes. I have them on 2 basses, one with USA Ultralights, one with imported Ultralights, and both do it. I’ve been meaning to fix it, but the basses still work fine and nobody ever mentions it so I haven’t bothered.

I replaced the cheap grindy stock tuners on my Kala U Bass at first with Gotohs and a Gotoh X-Tender and they all fit without any drilling. Later, I took the Hipshot Ultralights and X-Tender off my main player bass and installed them on the Kala also without any additional drilling even with the open gear design. I was worried initially that there might not be enough real estate on the back of the Kala headstock for the D-Tuners to work, but all the tuners fit perfect and the D-Tuner works great.
