Hey everyone, first post here.
My name is Gaje. I'm a New Englander, relocated to Brazil since 2005. I not really a bassist, however, I just made a sale/trade for an old acoustic guitar and the trade part was this honkin' bass combo. It's like 80 lbs or something which is kind of a drag since I'm in a third-story walk-up. I'll be like Fred Sanford calling for "Lizabeth" by the time I'm half-way up! Anyhow, I took the amp as part of the sale so I can plug the sub-out from my Roland AC-60 acoustic amp into it. I've been thinking, for some time, about having a bass cube under the Roland to make a mini-stack but the Roland is so tiny atop the Hiwatt that now it looks like the head and torso of a Transformer robot. Sounds freakin' fantastic though cranked with my D-28 and Fishman Aura Spectrum! Got me a Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive, as well, to mix in some dirt now and then (sorry, my acoustic purist friends!) The Roland Hiwatt/Maxwatt stack is now my home stereo as well so I have to pay attention not to get too psyched and blow my co-habitants in the building into another dimension. Hyperbole aside, I can't, for the life of me, locate any kind of specs or manual for this amp. I see that there have been many changes of ownership, from the 60's to '81, then to '84, then some stuff in California, I think, and then there are the guys who got caught forging and trading stolen goods etc. Now looks like new ownership for Hiwatt in the world with the exception of the name Maxwatt in the States due to © problems. I got the amp on Tuesday and have literally spent hours each day trying to find any specific info. Did some searches here as well, before asking all of you on Talk Bass, and only found a couple of old posts about a blown speaker and some random comments here and there. Although I'm grateful for my recent doctoral thesis research project about all things Hiwatt, haha, I'd really just like to find a bit of info about the amp. I've fired off emails to the available "contact us" addresses on the new Hiwatt UK and Maxwatt websites as well. Waiting for a response from one of them. I'll be grateful for any tidbits anyone might have. Thanks for sticking around till the end.
