Hot/Wet Deals at Guitar Center! (Sherman Oaks, LA, CA)

A better video account…

The hydrant water flow into the air was so intense that it shot up onto the roof, eventually collapsing it. Ironically, the drum department was the worst hit. I’ve been in there countless times. Even though everybody has something to bitch about concerning GC, it’s still a drag. While there are plenty of other cool little music stores in the vicinity, many along Ventura Blvd., it was still quite the hub of activity.

I think I’ve been in their rear parking lot more times than in the store. Sherman Oaks is about halfway between my house and “LA”, so I’ve met people in that lot for deals/trades.

So why not go in the store? I have - but if I was selling something, I’m not leaving it in the car. And once I bought something, again, not leaving it in the car. But have definitely gone in a bunch of times. I like that location a lot better than the Oxnard location, and before the Westlake Village location was built (and even then, it had nothing until a recent revamp, and now it’s worth a trip, though still not a great selection for bass).

That’s my fav guitar center in the LA area. They get really good used stuff. Sucks for everyone mostly the employees. I’m sure it’ll be closed for a bit

If you’re in Sherman Oaks, you’re pretty much in LA, although yes, you’re in the Valley, but all ya gotta do is hop the hill.
I’ve never felt nervous leaving any gear in the car in their parking lot. I have a hatchback, no trunk, but I cover things up. It just isn’t that kind of area.
Even if I’m there for a CL meet-up, I still have to go in to check things out. Then there’s Norm’s, Imperial Vintage, the Amp Shop, and Ventura Music nearby, plus Freakbeat Records. It’s a full tour.

Yeah - when people are driving from Long Beach, or Pasadena, etc - Sherman Oaks is a decent meet up. “Just cresting the hill” takes traffic from bad to absolute misery for me. I can handle the 101 through the Valley.

I went to Norm’s recently - played an early 60’s Jazz. Otherwise didn’t see much, basswise. Haven’t been to The Amp Shop in a while - I should “make the rounds” one day, though it’s better when actually shopping for something.
