ISB Conventions, Domain Forget festival, and if you are a student Aspen and Tanglewood.
You play classical and or Jazz?

I’ve been to your country. I was a pilot flying the Haj out of Sokoto and Kano about 20 years ago. With few exceptions (like the police stopping our crew bus and forcing us to surrender the film in our cameras), I actually had a lovely time. I enjoyed the people. Enjoyed the food. My wanderings were limited though. Pilots don’t usually have a lot of time to be tourists.

If you want to meet American bassists on line, your in the right place. Usually topics of discussion tend to be pretty focused on small manageable issues like commenting upon or asking advice about repairs, instruments, matters of playing technique or just tidbits of gossip about notable players or events.

But why not a penpal thread? Probably most of us would be interested about life as a bassist in Nigeria. Is there a thriving classical and jazz musical scene where you live?

The other aspect: if you can manage a visa (difficult and getting more difficult all the time), I would second the recommendation of attending an ISB (International Society of Bassists) convention here for all things bass. Totally fun and informative.

Sorry, the only contact most Americans have with Nigeria is in the form of obvious attempts at fraud that we find in our emails or reading news articles about Boco Haram. If you meet with some pause from people here, thats probably why.

Great to hear that. Would want to attend such conference. Yes visa issues are always demanding. I will try that line

I know this is a public forum, but I think we could do without the “scam” jokes. They are in poor taste, veering towards ignorant stereotyping.

The OP posted in sincerity, seeking to make contact with brother/sister bassists, and he gets wise cracking instead.

Agreed, and I removed that stuff.

Welcome to Talkbass!

You’ve definitely found the right place to make contact with, exchange ideas with, and get advice from bassists in the US & all over the world.

In general there are a lot of great people with a wealth of experience & knowledge here.

Welcome to TalkBass. A good way to meet players is to participate in the forums here, maybe providing samples of your playing so that people can talk to you with an understanding of your performance. I think that will serve you better than people reaching out to you by email, phone, etc. Cheers.

We also enjoy pictures of basses, video or audio of bass playing. Which part of Nigeria? I've been to Lagos and Abeokuta.
