How do you group your 16th notes? Can you do it in 5?

Grouping notes across the bar line and/or beat is a great way to keep the energy in music. The very though process that one has to go through to do this is a valuable lesson in phrasing. Something that helped me when I was learning phrasing and musicality was a book by the Oboist Marcel Tabuteau. I fear it's out of print this days, but many people have taken his teaching and developed and used them. Of course Tabuteau was playing complex music and solos by the great masters of orchestral music, so the 'fine tuning' of his method may be more than we need on bass, but the concept is worth knowing and considering.
