I've been frustrated with the lack of stability in my stock jazz bass bridge so I decided to upgrade to a Babicz full contact hardware bridge. It was very straightforward - all I had to do was remove the strings, unbolt the old bridge, and install the new one. I ended up using the original screws because the ones provided with the Babicz were larger and I didn't want to drill out the holes in my bass. I would still consider this to be a direct bolt-on mod since the old screws worked fine. So far I'm very happy with it - after a few gigs none of my adjustments have changed and there is a noticeable difference in tone. I've made a video detailing the entire process and embedded it below. Hope this helps someone!

I have one on my Carvin which replaced the stock POS Wilkie bridge. Your opening statement is of greater concern. Describe the instability, please.

That was, indeed, a very helpful video. Except for one thing; I'm wondering now why the Babicz bridge on my '18 Thunderbird currently holds the record for the fiddliest, most irritating, biggest PITA bridge I have ever dealt with. Including the stock bridges on my 2 Ricks. The 3-pointer on my other T-Bird is an absolute joy by comparison. I guess I'm going to have to take the...thing... off the T-Bird; take it apart; and see what the hell is going on with it. Hopefully it's nothing I can't fix... After watching your video, something fer sure ain't right with mine...:rollno:

The fiddliest, most irritating, biggest PITA bridge I have ever dealt with is by far the Hipshot KickAss. If I want high mass I'll just get an Omega or a BAII quick easy mount and simple to adjust. Sometimes you need a neck shim but thats easy enough to do if needed.
