I've been playing for 36 years and have owned my own shop for a number of years as well.. I OFTEN get the question of how to appropriately and effectively clean a bass to the point of it looking brand new again. For me, cleaning with warm water only, allow to dry and one layer of this :

This wax is magical to me, becomes shiny and hard in a minute.

I don’t have any nitrocellulose finish on my basses though.
