I am shocked! Guy wont sell bass ''Out of Italy''!

I have to share this with all of you on TB!

Today I was shocked by the response of a guy from Italy to my inquiry about a bass guitar from his ad.

However, I responded to an ad for the sale of ''MUSIC MAN STING RAY BEFORE ERNIE BALL'' on a popular Italian classifieds, with a few questions regarding a bass weight and some additional pictures. My message was on English, and my name is not Italian, so the guy responded to me:
''Obrad I don't sell the bass out of Italy. Thank you''

Based on this, I concluded that the seller may not want to ship, so I replied:
''I would come to Milan to try it before I buy it, and would pay cash''.

And got an simple answer:
''No thanks''.

Did I do something wrong? I don't understand at all what happened? I am completely shocked!

He may be just a bit hinkey about you being from out of the country. It must be real special bass for you want travel to Italy. Is there mutual contact in Italy who can assist?

Yes, that is exactly the bass that I have been waiting for a long time to appear, so I would even pay several hundred euros for a return plane ticket to Milan to try and possibly buy a bass.

A friend of mine recently bought a fairly expensive DW drum set in Italy, the seller initially was beyond cautious - borderline paranoid really - and later went on to explain that there's a *ton* of scam going on with musical instrument ads, and that quite often the perpetrators are foreigners from certain areas...it only takes a few rotten apples and all that jazz.

This is obviously hearsay, but that's all I've got.

On a different note, some *really* deep local digging - including notifying known resellers what you're looking for - may just yield a bass that would fit the bill. There was never a zillion of them around here, but they were not that scarce either, unless every single one of them made its way abroad during the '90s...

My $.02 only...

Good luck.

:thumbsup: Milan's a really nice town - highly recommend it with any excuse for visiting!
And if you have an extra day, take the bullet train to Venice and back (nice day trip!)... or the fast line down to Bologna - and visit the Lamborghini factory/museum... :bassist:
Venice was the best part of Italia hands down. I kept hearing Ode To Joy in my head. I think Aliens built it.

There are restaurants near me of a certain ethnicity where everyone is welcome, but if there's a wait, and you come in, and are from that ethnicity, there is no wait for you. Everyone is equal, some are just a bit more equal.

Here, not from Italy, no bass for you. Same principle. Kinda.
