I just restrung my E string and now my A string buzzes on frets 12-20.

I just unwound the E string on my bass because I realized the string was twisted and was giving me pitch issues, so I strung it up properly only to find that my A string now buzzes on frets 12-20. I left the other three strings on fully wound when I removed the E string, but only the A string is now buzzing. Was this a bad move? What do?

It may fix itself as the neck comes back under the same tension. Do you have it set up pretty low to begin with? It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong.
Yeah I like my action pretty low. Didn't have much buzzing initially but now I'm noticing it on other strings as well. I probably have to loosen my truss rod.

Looks like you're new on Talkbass, welcome!

I believe if it's buzzing on the high frets but not low frets, it means too much relief. There's no obvious reason why that would have happened just from removing and reinstalling the E string, maybe you're just noticing now?

Capo at first fret, hold down a string above the last fret. You should have maybe .010" - .015" relief halfway between them (8th fret or thereabouts): a business card or very thin pick. That's a starting point, tweak from there based on where it buzzes when the action is lowered. As you get close to your ideal setting, make small adjustments and give them a day to settle as the neck adapts to its new shape.

What kind of bass is it?
