I love this Traveler TB-4P bass! It is so handy, so comfortable to play and sounds great. I easily play/practice 50% more with this thing around as it sits next to this chair and is a quick grab when I’ve got 5 mins to practice an exercise or noodle on the couch while watching a football game. Sounds good acoustic and built-in headphone amp eliminates the excuse of not wanting to drag out my stuff and plug in.
Build quality is top-notch, easiest to set up of all of my basses and neck is rock solid. Super easy to get low action. Best dollar for dollar purchase since I began this bass journey.
Everyone needs something like this, 6.5 lbs of awesome that makes it easier to play more often rather than less!!

I had one, it was overpriced when I bought it and it was difficult to get rid of it. I finally found a local PDX music store that gave me fair trade in value.
I liked the bass when i had it. I was traveling a LOT back then and the bass fit in the overhead on the planes. It had a good sound and feel. After I stopped traveling so much, I didn’t have any use for it.

I’m not a commercial user, if that is your question.
Just a happy customer wanting to share my positive experience with how having this smaller than standard bass around has positively impacted my practice schedule.
You don’t see these commented on much around here (compared to Ibby Mikros, Squire Broncos or Mini-Ps) so I thought some might benefit from my positive experience. 32” scale and ability to use regular long-scale strings makes these unique in the “compact” bass format.

I also travel for a living and this bass has been great for enabling practice on the road as well.
Mine is an older version of the bass and was acquired as NOS for about 70% of MSRP.

Good deal!
I totally agree that its a great bass for practicing on the road.
I had many hotel room jams with road buddies. I was able to play through a Jawbone jambox at low levels with good sound.
The aux in and headphone jack was a plus for solo jamming.

Ok, ping me a message and I'll send you my mailing address.

Like you said, EVERYONE should have one.

I'm next, right?

;-)

looks like a very cool axe! I love it when someone adds stuff and it works out well

I don't mean to be Dr. Buzz Von Killington but I have a TB-4P and I was a little underwhelmed with the craftsmanship for the price point. First, the headphone amp stopped working. I wrote to Traveler. No luck. I had the first-generation model. They no longer had the parts. Fine. I gutted the electronics and replaced them with passive P-bass controls.

Shortly after that, the piece holding the tuners for two of the strings suddenly detached from the body. I found out that it was because one of the two screws holding it in place was too short for the job. Oddly, the other screw was long enough. Did they run out of the right screw and grab whatever was lying around?

And don't get me started on that irreplaceable bridge.

Don't get me wrong. It is a very cool design, great to play, good for travel, etc. I just wish the one in my hand wasn't a lemon. And I could replace that bridge.

I really love mine. Neck a little thicker than ideal for me, but that doesn't get in the way. My tone knob doesn't do a lot, but of course if necessary my amp has plenty of control. I added a thumb rest; I'm used to anchoring on a pickup when playing the E string, and the Mustang-style pickup is a little too close to the E and too small for anchoring. (Yeah, First World problems). When traveling, or just when I don't want to bring my 5501 for a jam, it's perfect. I think it's a brilliant design for its target market, and it's fully playable in a band setting.

I'm curious if the newer model headphone amp sounds any different/better than the original. I had some communication with Traveler and they said the new electronics unit isn't a drop-in replacement. Still, when I'm practicing with the headphone amp, either technique or playing along with tunes, I'm not really fussy about tone- I'm woikin' heah!

Thumb rest would be a definite upgrade. I’d like something long enough to allow for anchoring while playing closer to the bridge, too. What did you go with? Any pics?
