I Made an Album! [instrumental/chill/whatever]

Ahoy!

It's been a few years since I've been in a band (or really even consistently played with others), and have been focusing my creativity in the home studio/recording. I finally got enough tracks together that I think are good enough to release into the world.

It may not be a style that many of you are interested in - all instrumental, and synth/electronic-heavy. Very mellow, repetitive, a little bit ambient, and a little cinematic at times - But I did use real bass (and guitars) on every track! Most of the basslines are pretty repetitive, with synth layered underneath. Give a listen if you have the chance and let me know if you don't think it's garbage!

(Tracks 2 and 5 have the most "interesting/apparent" bass lines)

Sorry to spam all the links, but I know some people prefer different sites/services to listen...

I've listened to your album and I like it. I can hear, what seems to me, a bit of Peter Gabriel influence.
I think that my favorite track is "Snooze", a very nice melody and the build up is perfect.
What instruments did you use and what was your songwriting and recording process?
Keep up the good work!

Nice! I think I like "Flow" the best. It's kind of like a cross between Art of Noise and Prince.

I've been looking up alternative ways to sell music, and your tracks sound like they're made for advertising/TV/movie licensing.

Congratulations!
Reminds me a little of a San Francisco-based artist I love called General Fuzz, though your tracks sound much more spacious. I think it sounds great, and you should be very happy!

Thanks for listening - I'll have to give General Fuzz a spin, I'm not familiar with his work.

Thank you :) I didn't grow up listening to Peter Gabriel, so I can't say he's a direct influence. I won't complain at the mention, though!

My process is fairly un-structured - I record as I write, and mix as I record ... for Snooze, it started with the acoustic guitar riff, and the nature/waves in the background came in pretty early to set the tone. I think drums/percussion were next (I have a few drum machine/vsts, and a decent sample library), and then bass (simple, long, root notes). After that, I laid down a bunch of layers of electric guitar, played with an eBow (that's where most of the swell/build-up is) - tons or reverb and delay. There's a little bit of synth/pad and strings (VST) layered in as well. Lots of loooong fades. The melodic synth part was the last piece of the writing process ... just had it looping, plunking away, and experimenting with different sounds until something sounded right.

The instruments used are all pretty low-end. I've got a BC Rich acoustic, and a lineup of Squiers: VM Jazz, Bass VI, and Jazzmaster (guitar). Also just picked up a TBC active Jazz 5-string that made it onto a few tracks, but the electronics just crapped out, so it's out of the rotation for now. The synths/virtual instruments were mostly played on an Arturia Minilab mk2, a simple Akai 16-pad drum thingy, and a basic M-Audio Keystation. Oh, and all recorded in Reaper. I love living in a time where I don't have to spend a fortune to make something like this :)

Wow - also not familiar with Art of Noise, but I just listened to a couple of their tracks - I'm digging it for sure, and definitely try to capture very similar vibes with my music. Very cool! And Prince! I don't know about that, but you're making me blush if serious :)

I've done a little bit of preliminary research regarding licensing, because I definitely could see my tracks being used in that way. It seems that I'd need to be a lot more prolific with the work to really get into that - maybe some day!!

Thanks again for listening, and the kind words!

Great work, man! I like your stuff. Well-mixed, too. Some of it reminds me a bit of Silent Poets from Japan (who I count as an influence of mine). Congratulations! For the Art Of Noise (essential group in the history of electronic and sample-based music) check out their first couple of releases (Into Battle And Who's Afraid Of... but also The Ambient Collection from a bit later).

Great work. Are these available for free download? And could I use them in my videos?

Thank you! Yes - you can download them for free through the bandcamp link (Behind the Scenes, by Lwke) - just put 0$ as the amount you wish to pay :)

As far as using them in videos - most likely yes, but depends on what the video content is :) Just don't want it used for anything I'd find disagreeable. And a little credit would be nice if you choose to use them ... feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to discuss any details.

Thank you. I'll try to do your music justice.
Have a look at my YouTube channel. I do mostly travel videos in 4K. Toxic Tabasco
It's mostly fast pace stuff, and your music would fit really well.

I checked out your YouTube channel - I definitely don't have a problem if you want to use some of my music, I agree that it would be a really good fit.

Definitely let me know if you do so I can check it out - I'm jealous of your travels!
