A nice fellow stopped by this week with the top already removed from this bass and casually said, "I think the bassbar is a little loose"...

God**** sprung bass bars...

James, you should see the early King I brought home yesterday. It hasn't been touched in 30 years and looks almost new. Just incredible.

A bass life wasted; I'd have soooooooooooo much more respect for the owner if it looked like this bass and they had a 10,000 stories of adventurous gigs to share like this fellow does.....

Progress on the old girl: new grafts and arches in the vacuum press. There are still a few air bubbles because I took the photos before everything got completely sealed and aligned. The mold is two giant book matched pieces of Honduras mahogany that I hand carved a few years ago. It is in constant use and one of the best shop jig decisions I have made. The darkest section is what was left of the old green tulip poplar from the factory; all the new sections I made up spruce veneer to match the original ply thickness. More to come this week.

When you live in the land of 4,000 old ply basses and 11 carved basses, it makes good business sense to get in well with the ply crowd; not to mention the folks who gig with these tend to be WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more laid back as customers. As much as I like fully carved basses and enjoy building them, some of those guys are so high strung you'd think they were mandolin players!
