I'll be darned if I didn't get it for a steal. I've owned these on two seperate tours and both times got rid of them as soon as I was back home. I was browsing for a quick but keepable secondhand distortion pedal on the notorious FB marketplace for a gig I had on the coming saturday, giving me only a few days to decide on an option. Found her for 100$ and thought 'Heck, been looking for a D.I. box anyhow.' talked em down to $75 and I'm a happy camper.

She's been getting plenty of playtime since, making practices w/ various bands just super easy since I run direct to p.a. w/ this guy.

The above picture is the settings I used for the performance running through my ampeg SVT4pro head w/ the graphic eq set to have lows and highs scooped, while mids are dialed back pretty far, direct out from the svt to FOH and pumping through my ampeg svt810 classic series cab. You can hear the bass well and w/ a solo here:

Overall I'm happy she's back in my arsenal. Funny thing is I'm pretty sure he bought it secondhand from a place I sold it too meaning this is VERY likely the exact unit that I've toured w/ already before. WELCOME HOME LITTLE M80. :roflmao:

Why did you get rid of that pedal twice?

First time I was waiting for a Darkglass alpha Omega ultra. Second time I was waiting for a Darkglass alpha Omega ultra. (My guitarist kicked mine across stage the first time breaking it). :D

I sold the Darkglass at some point mid last year because no gigging I didn't really need it since our producers use Darkglass plugins anyway for recording.

It is a solid piece that I have used many times because it was what the house provided, no complaints. The distortion is one of those generic sounds , not great ~ not terrible - but it just works and sits well in most mixes. That makes it a solid choice, near about the industry standard imo and a reason MXR still offers it.

It is sort of the SM58 for electric bass.

I agree, the distortion is just totally average, not great, but def not bad. The only downside I have w this pedal is the amount of background hum it creates. But in most performance settings it's pretty much unnoticeable thankfully.

A lot of time, money and effort is wasted in the buying/selling process. I buy it once and just keep... everything — no seller's remorse, no having to hunt down something that since being sold has skyrocketed in price or become hard to find. Artists don't buy and sell their brushes, well none I've ever known or heard of. I suppose if you're out of work and have no cash flow, selling a pedal (or even a brush) is an option.

You've explained why you bought it several times over, but you still haven't addressed why "I told myself never again...". Or is that the background hum and totally average distortion?

I didn't lose any time, money, or effort nor suffered any remorse. I only explained why I bought it once, that was the nice tag. I told myself never again because I bought and sold it twice while waiting for a different distortion pedal. Which I also explained.

I'm losing time and effort on this reply though. Hope your day gets better!

Hey @Lenny JG , thanks for the reply.

I was genuinely curious, I wasn't meaning to be snarky — honestly ; Just musing about the whole buy/sell process in general, I should've included some smilies .
You did say you bought it again waiting for another pedal, I just thought maybe there was something you didn't like about it to have said "never again", I'm always seeking to learn something new about a pedal. :bookworm:

My day's been great so far (5am here ) and I hope yours is too. Sorry to have taken up any time and effort. :bag:

Twas a good deal, I should've congratulated you on your score, before so — Congrats!

No worries! I'm glad your day has been good to ya! But yeah this thing is a bit noisy even w/ the built in gate and that's about the only useful insight into it tbh lol

I've just bought myself one of these on Ebay for £125. I get far too obsessed over new purchase options but I felt drawn to this for whatever reason.

My plan is to use it at the end of my pedal chain and for a couple of purposes... which may end up being totally unsuccessful
I want to preamp to give my passive bass an extra boost to match more with my active. However, I want to use the distortion as a secondary one to give added oomph during solos or at certain points.

Whether it works or not, I actually don't mind. I'm quite looking forward the just playing around with it and figuring out what works.
