Hello talkbassers,
I'm a bass player, also a (former) guitarist. I started playing on guitar in early '90s (I was a big Lukather, Satriani, Petrucci, Nuno and Vai fan) and in the mid '90s I founded a progressive rock band (Rush, Dream Theater, Toto and Journey influences): The Project.
In late '90s another band was rising, funk/hip-hop/metal band, Rebels, and with this band I won few metal festivals in Romania. But with this funk-metal project I started picking the bass for fun (6 string Peavey) and in parallel I started playing as bassist in few projects (a reggae band, a funk/pop-rock band etc.) and big festivals in Romania and Hungary (Mamaia, Ki Mit Tud).
In mid '90s I discovered Level 42 and Mark King and that was the beginig of my departure from guitar. Slap and groove all day, baby!
After I started learning Tom Kennedy's and John Patitucci's (with Dave Weckl) parts/themes, Louis Johnson and Mezzoforte grooves. In early 2000s with the rising of YouTube I discovered the american gospel players (in Romania and Hungary - I'm romanian born hungarian - the gospel music is totally absent and I'm not a religious person) and I was mesmerized: Andrew Gouche, Thad Johnson and, latter, Justin Raines.
Few years after (2006), one of the biggest (romanian born) armenian jazz pianists invited me in his jazz trio: Harry Tavitian Trio. From that moment I was a bass player, not a guitar player or hybrid.
But after a few years my doctoral studies forced me to put my bass away and I focused on my academic journey (a Ph.D in History and Philosophy of History).
At the start of this year few friends convinced me to return to music/bass and here I am!
Thank's for reading my journey and have a nice day!
