Ran into an Ibanez Jet King 2 bass at a GC. Red with white pickhguard yellowed by exposure to sun and a bright white round dot in the pickguard where some idiot left the sticker on the pickguard during the sun exposure.

$299.

Plays great, has new flats on it. Heavier than Iron Butterfly.

Think I can get them down to $250.

Note: I do not need another bass.
NoteNote: Need's got nothing to do with it.

A lesson I've learned over the years is whenever I'm in a position where I have the opportunity to buy a cheap bass that I dont need, but consider it because it's a good price is this...I later realize I bought a cheap bass that I don't need and dont really end up playing and could have put that money to better use if I was patient and saved toward a nicer instrument, amp, etc.

I just think a lot of people who have a couple hundred bucks in their pockets come across something that ends up costing close to what they have in their hands at the time and think, oh, thats a great deal, when they really have no use for it. Personally I'd rather just keep adding to the pot so to speak, be patient, and then when something really nice comes along I actually have the cash to buy it without worrying where I'm going got get the money, I don't have to sell off all those cheap basses that I thought were such great deals at the time but don't play to have to fund the new purchase, etc. But then again, I'm more about quality, not quantity.

That's a good point. I've got my high end stuff and just sort if dig weird basses. On the other hand, my Americana band plays smallnvenues and a Rumble 40 would get real play time.

On the other hand the Jet King was pretty cool.

I went through a phase several years ago where I'd just jump on whatever I had the money to buy that was a great deal. Ended up with a room full of cheap stuff that might look cool, and impress friends who had no clue what they were looking at, but at the end of the day I just ended up playing the one or two instruments I really liked, and the rest was clutter and really served no purpose.

True. I love my Drakes and that's all Inreally NEED so I Make myself play some the others by rotating them for gigs and jams.

I'm the other hand, I do enjoy some of those silly basses like the Jag Deluxe, Jack Casady, Starcaster and Hofner Ignition Club.

Well, you know VB, I'm mulling over those points you made. It's funky and sounds good and a good price but......there is the fact that those are the only reasons to buy it. No need whatsoever......

Being reponsible kinda sucks.

I know it's not what everyone wants to hear, but I'm just giving my experience and I've been in both situations. Like I mentioned, I've acquired a bunch of gear and just thought it was a waste, and then when something REALLY nice came along, I didnt have the cash for it and instead had a room full of crap I never used. Patience is tough, but it can pay off.
