Hi gang...although I already have too many basses, there's always room for one more, and I've never had an Ibanez before and have kind of wanted to try one out (I play mainly pick style and the close string spacing can't be worse than a Ric 4003s5!). Anyhow, I can pick up the one below pretty cheaply, but the owner says there is no model number on it, and I can't ID it for certain; I think it is probably an SR-405 or SR-505 with a few other letters after the model. Any thoughts from our Ibby experts out there?

I knew you folks would come through! Now I just need to figure out if I can resist the purchase impulse. Seems like I've read that the cutoff point for a quality SR is the 505 level, and I've been waiting for something above that threshold to come along, but this one is tempting me.

the next level up will have different pickups and eq and that may make a big difference to you. the neck and finish quality should be comparable until you get to the premiums which will be a lot nicer than 5XX, 7XX, etc

SR505 can be found below $300 from time to time

Yep, if you are desiring a Soundgear, I'd hold out for a higher end model. Once you hit around the SR8xx level, you're talking pretty serious, pro-level stuff.

5XX is pretty serious pro-level stuff. Everything above that up to Premium is just cosmetics. The tone remains mostly the same. From alll my SRs, the 505 plays and sounds the best. And yes, I do own higher number models.
