Ibanez SR506 Bartolini MK1 replacement?

Hey TB!

This isn't just a standard, "recommend me some replacements for my MK1s" thread. I have a more specific question in mind:

My Ibanez SR506 is strung with Carvin 6011, and for the most part I love my tone, but only after I cut the mids 20-90% when it's toggled to 250Hz. It's just so much more even and less boxy. I would love to have that cut - and to my ears, a more even response - already there naturally, so I could use the mid frequency to add mids at 800hz.

Any SR506 owners who swapped their MK1s (which I really like for the most part), for another pickup that didn't have so much of those low low mids? I'm NOT looking for outboard eq suggestions

I've been looking at Lace Bassbars, but I'm not sure if they're what I'm looking for, especially since there's enough neck dive as it is and those Lace pups would take away some weight

Odd that you'd find neck dive in an SR506. The whole point of those tiny Ibanez headstocks with the small tuners is to minimize that problem. I've never played a Soundgear bass that had any significant neck dive.

It's not terrible, and certainly not as bad if the headstock was larger. Nothing my wide strap can't mitigate.

Bump. Anyone have experience with soapbars that such a bump in the 250Hz range?

Maybe... you have what some have said about few Ibanez basses which pickups were switched between bridge and neck pickups, so yours have hotter pickup in the neck, which resulting more boomy on the low and low mid registers. They've said switching these pickups would give better sound output.

as for pickups replacement... I replaced the MK1s on my Cort Artisan A6 with the MK6CBC pickups not because there was anything wrong with them, but only due to the coil tap-able of the MK6CBCs, so I can have options of humbuckers, 60s Jazz Bass style (3.6" apart single coils), and 70s Jazz Bass style (4" apart single coils).

Interesting you wrote this, I was listening to sound clips of Barts being switched between series, parallel, and single coil, and I was thinking there were sounds there I was chasing after...

Yes, coil tap can give lot more tone variations. Then you might have the kind of sound you were after.

I chose coil tap options of humbuckers, outer single coils, and inner single coils, because it needed only 1 DPDT on-off-on switch, where my bass had only 1 switch hole and I didn't want to drill new hole.

Coil tap options of series, parallel, and single coils need 1 DPDT on-on-on switch for each pickup, so totally it needed 2 switches, therefore it didn't suit me as I didn't want to make new hole on my bass.
