Ibanez ST-980 TLC

Hi all, hope everyone is healthy.
I am helping someone get their basses cleaned, setup, Etc.
What a surprise when I saw he had a 1980 Ibanez ST-980, eight string.
I am reaching out to anyone who has any experience working on these
for advise, tips.
Especially with the bridge. The bottom post on it is broken and I
was going to take it off but the upper post, the nut is frozen.
I believe the bridge is solid brass but correct me if am wrong.
Won't attract a magnet.
I used some penetrating solution but I don't want to break it.
That is probably what happened to the bottom post.
I have searched all over the site but no specific info on this subject.
So, if you have worked on this bass or owned one, please
let me know. Also, I would like to find parts for this.
I emailed Ibanez US and am waiting if they can be of any help.

I've worked on a similar bridge on the Musician 8-string. With a similar problem, nuts being cross-threaded on the posts. I ended up buying some new posts and nuts from this site.

Just chanced on this post and thanks for throwing this link out there! I would hope they can do a repro of the “Studio” brass truss rod cover that is missing off my ST-980.

Edit: Answered my own question, they do.

Glad to be of assistance. I have one of his repro "Musician" truss rod covers on that very same MC-980. Not real brass, but looks identical. Very happy with it.

Especially considering that original truss rod covers go for more than effects pedals, it’s just about the only way to go.

Indeed! I only hope he still has some, or still makes them. It's been quite a number of years since I bought mine.
