Ibanez vs Ibanez

SR2405w quilted, I like the the green quilted maple wings. Aguilar super double pickups.
Previously I was sold on the SR1825 and the SR1305 which both come with Nordstrands. They're supposed to be Jazz bass on steroids. I'm looking at ibanez basses in this general price range. I want something that's a keeper.
The Nordstrands sound better in the videos. The Aguilars sound too dark but it could be EQ

As the owner of a Nordstrand-equipped 1206 (which I'm going to sell soon because I no longer have use for a 6-string), I can tell you that you're looking in the right place: Ibanez's Premium line are very high-quality instruments (the guitars are even more ridiculous -- have you *seen* those RGs?) and the famous SR neck basically plays itself (even though I'm selling the 1206, my #1 bass is a heavily-modded SR4005).

So between a 2405 and a 1825/1305, the hardware is identical and, pickups aside, the difference is mostly cosmetic. So what it's going to come down to is: whose sound do you prefer?

The Big Singles do indeed sound like a brighter, more modern Jazz bass (here's what mine sounds like in a mix: ). They're great.

The Super Doubles? I have no idea how they sound, and the only samples I can find on Youtube are of shred-type guys doing 6-string unaccompanied chords in the guitar range. That being said, they're an Aguilar product, which means they're quality. Aguilar gear never sounds bad (and the demos for a different model of Aguilar pickups on the BTB premium line sound super-tasty).

So either way, Nordstrand or Aguilar, you'll get a bass with kickass pickups. Therefore, here comes the dreaded "Try both and see which you like best. Neither sucks."

There's one important factor that differentiate the SR2405W Premium from most other SR series out there: it's going to be the SR Premium 5er that hasn't got tight string spacing. The specs said that it would have 18 mm string spacing at bridge. Quite a lot of SR series fans have been waiting for this.

This is what put the 2405W on my radar. A modern SR with 18mm spacing! GAS!

I've compared Big Singles to Aguilar & Bartolini's BH2. IF you want bright, the Big Single is the answer.
The downside is that they're single-coils, so they're noisy if you blend off of the middle position.

Some say they lack bottom-end, but I say the bottom is just covered by the bright top.
When I record mine (SR1800E) the bottom-end is very present.

The Big Singles also have more character IME & more growl.

^This is true. The Big Singles have lots of bottom end. I typically roll off the highs to get more lows....still supper punchy
