Ibenez SR 650 or Mexican P Bass

I’m a new bass player (lifetime guitar player)
Trying to decide the best guitar for my first bass ( mostly old rock and country) have played both of the above and gut says Ibenez ( very comfortable and love the Nordstoms) but history of bands I‘ve played with, leads me back to the solid sound of the P also. I’m a little concerned about Fender’s quality of late—-Would appreciate any feedback.

The P bass has a great tone for the styles you're into and if aesthetics are important to your bandmates, the P may win there as well. I've never had an issue with my Mexican P, but it isn't exactly new...

That said, Nordstroms sound great and could probably sit in the mix just fine. solo the neck pickup and tame the high end a bit, and I doubt the average listener could tell the difference. Coming from guitar, the SR will probably be easier to adjust to.

I say just get the one that makes you happiest unless the "authentic" vibe of the P is important on gigs.

If you’re a fit and finish type consumer, grab the SR. I think the tone profile of the pickups (I owned a 1200 with those pups) might make more sense to folks coming from guitar.

If you want a classic generic look, go MIM p bass, but a nice SR fits in anywhere except a tribute band setup.

Thanks for all the great advice..... two more questions:

1. Any feedback on Lakeland’s 30 Short
Scale Hollowbody?

2. Hartke 500’watt combos .. 2-10’s or 15 ?
Kickback ? Better Combo in the same
price range?
