I'm revising the sophomore barrier exam for the U, and would like skew the material away from the same bebop heads that the horn players have to do and make it a bit more bass centric and include practical stuff that bass players should know out on a gig in the real world. Help brainstorming would be much appreciated.

So far, I've got the lines from:

So What
All Blues
Footprints
Bolivia
Killer Joe
Maiden Voyage
Cantaloupe Island
Black Narcissus
Mercy Mercy Mercy

And the "Bird of Paradise" intro from "ATTYA"

Need to revise by end of next week. Let the brainstorming begin!

ALL the intros to the Bird heads
Exactly, and i'd add especially Star Eyes. As far as others, Giant Steps was mentioned, i always make sure students play that whole step line that PC plays (and that Steve Davis plays more expansively on But Not For Me, Satellite and 26-2, among others). Another big one in this neck of the woods is KD's Short Story and the intro figure that Richard Davis plays, as well as the coda, which is really it's own (amazing) tune in and of itself

OK - I confess - I don't have this one in my quiver:
Thanks for draining another few inches out of my pool of self-esteem, Michael!

Here's an accurate transcription of Butch Warren's bass line. The high G and D in the second bar are played as harmonics.
