I will be faced with a conflict in a couple months and can only keep one of the 2 basses mentioned. My newly acquired 2014 STR LS-549 in mint condition or my Custom Bacchus Spalted Maple Burl being built and ready in 4 months. What do the TB'ers view as the better option. This STR plays and sounds as good as anything I've ever owned and build is 2nd to none. The Bacchus will be built by same luthiers and should sound close to this STR. What does my TB brethren think?

I've owned this exact spec Bacchus before and it was as good as any bass I've owned. The problem I'll face is I won't be able to afford to keep both. If I finish paying for the Bacchus I'll have to sale the STR bass.

The Bacchus is prettier to me, but I guess I'd decide once you have both of them in your hands to compare feel and sound.

As a long time Bacchus owner/player and have also played STR basses, you can never go wrong with either of the two. Remember, these basses are handmade at Deviser factory (Aska in Nagano, a very beautiful place) by the same master luthiers. The only difference is the STR brand has more of a "custom shop" feeling and made only in Japan although very few (nicknamed PROTO is also made in Philippines under the supervision of Master luthier Mssayuki Takaesu.) Bacchus on the otherhand is made in Japan (Handmade, Craft and Classic Series), Philippines (Global Series) and China (Universe series). Also STR is usually a built to order model according to the customers specs and choice of woods and parts. Bacchus on the otherhand can only be ordered as semi-custom with limited options. Personally if I will vote, I go for the STR.

Bacchus in a heartbeat.
It plays and sounds even better than it looks, right?
