Installing Audere preamp on L2500. Classic or ProZ?

Hi, I have a 2003 first gen G&L Tribute L-2500 bass that has gone through a makeover, including a fresh new stock G&L preamp. Now I recently built a Squier jazz bass V that sports an Audere Classic preamp, and I absolutely love it....the g&l preamp, not do much.

Theres 3 holes for pots and 3 smaller holes for switches on my L2500.

Now, I have the option of getting the Audere classic module pre for my g&l in the form of vol-mid/bal-treb/bass pots, with an LED (sold separately) and a mid freq switch. This would leave one switch hole empty. In total like $60 bucks cheaper.

The ProZ however, I can order it with the mid freq switch and z mode switch, plus LED light (included)...it would fill all holes (no pun intended, i swear). Be more versatile (i think?), better made, etc.

Now, is the $60dlls increase to get a "z mode" worth it?

Has anyone installed an audere preamp on a g&l, specifically an L2500 (or 2000)? How does it sound?

How hard is the installation? I know how to solder, and follow instructions, but I'm in no way a electronics guru...

Thanks

Jorge

I have a total of three Auderes, one ProZ and two Classic. The build quality of the preamp is high and the same for both the ProZ and Classic. Both are easy to install, IMO. You don‘t need to be an electronic‘s guru and there is not that much to solder. I would go with the ProZ. I needed to go with the Classic for two of my basses, because they have active pickups. Active pickups will not work with the ProZ.
I can’t tell you how they will sound in G&Ls, but in my basses I am getting the sound I want.

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards the Pro Z version, just for the sake of using all the routes on the bass.

Question, when you buy a module pre, does everything come soldered already? I mean the ribbons to the preamp board...like the led, the switches, etc. I know I have to solder the pickups though.

Pro Z in my latest project - Fralin hum cancelling pups.

Lovely.

Ok, so installed the Audere Pro Z preamp in the G&L. Installation went super smooth thanks to the Audere tech team answering some wiring questions (and then some).

I wired it in series as per Audere instructions. Controls are as follows: VOL- MID/BALANCE- TREB/BASS.
Switches are: Pro Z (highZ - MidZ - LowZ) - Mid Freq (3 position). LED was included (battery indicator) and I got this really nice chrome bezel that just went in one of the smaller switch holes. Looks super clean IMO.

Sounds so good honestly. Super clean, super usable EQ. This bass will get a lot of use now.
