Instrument to Mac & iphone for practice with backing tracks / Hardware?

While mainly a live player, i would love to be able to simply play along with backing tracks both through my studio monitors and through headphones (late night shedding). Also wouldn't mind being able to use my iphone while traveling. Any suggestions on what to purchase? A simple 1/4 to 1/8" cable or a more of a interface/preamp?

thanks for any advice.

You might try the Irig HD2 and AmpliTube software.. probably be 100 for the IRIG and another 20-100 by the time you purchase the sounds and features you want.. I use them both and enjoy them.. be aware that the Mac and iOS versions are separate purchases.. hope that helps

You don't need AmpliTube or anything else. Use the free GarageBand. You can import your songs from iTunes as a track and play along/record with it.

Been doing it for years.

checked that out just now - question: can you play along with backing tracks from youtube? i.e.. Amplitube will work in the background or do you need mp3 files? (obviously for the speedtrainer - which is cool).

thanks

You might use the Downie app (I use in Safari) to record the YouTube clip to your Mac as a mp3 file.

Cool - I didn't know you could save youtube clips as mp3 - will get the Downie app. I did find another TB'er archived post who mentions using the iRig and Amplitude to play in the background when learning tunes using Youtube... nice to have the scrolling changes for some of the jazz standards users have graciously put together. thanks Larry
