iPhone audio routing question

I have no idea where to put this, maybe in the earphone discussion somewhere, but I know there are some iPhone experts on the forum somewhere. I tried searching the topic but wording it correctly produces unhelpful results via ai confusion I guess.

If I am using a Bluetooth headset with mic, or AirPods for that matter, and plug an external instrument or external mic into the iPhone via lightning adapter of high quality, will I immediately hear the external device or not? Is there an assumption built in that the external connection takes priority over the AirPods or BT connected headset?
Secondly, if not, am I forced to drop the combo mic/earphone device and instead use earphone-only device in order to hear the connected external source. Is there a way to blend?
Third, can Apple’s “Live Listen” facility be used to condition the sound from the external device?

thx

The answers lie in your software.

I can tell you that I have used a SONUUS i2M connected to my iPad via lightening to USB adapter, recorded into Garageband, and monitored the audio out of my headphone jack, which was connected to the AUX in of my amp. Latency was - well - not terrible, but it would be worse if I was monitoring via Bluetooth anything (it's the nature of Bluetooth).

"Blending" outside of your software is done with a mixer.

For sound "conditioning" I can heartily recommend Dolby On (free). I never tried Live Listen.

You will not hear it immediately. Bluetooth is too slow. You have to use cable connected headphones or if you really need a wireless connection you need to use the same technique as it is used on live stages for in-ear monitoring or wireless connections of instruments. None of these are using bluetooth, they're using special fm-frequencies or the same technique as WLAN for transmitting the signals. The transmitter and receiver will be at least about 200,- to 300,- up to more than 1.000,-.
