Is this a fake? Stingray traded in at music store

Saw this bass that was traded in at music store. Looks like an SD pickup and the bridge doesn't look right either. But is the body and neck legit or is that fake decal on the headstock too?

I was thinking the same ... that the neck wood looks pretty good and has that dark amber tint to it. But the body looks like a Sterling SUB.
Anyway - some poor guy at Guitar Center took it in thinking it was a real StingRay - I wonder how much they gave for it?

This looks like a poor Chinese counterfeit. The bridge is of the type normally associated with a SBMM SUB, but it’s not a SUB - the battery compartment is in the wrong place, for one thing, and the neck is wrong for a SUB as well. It also has a 3-band preamp where the SUB has a 2-band.

Looks like a modified SUB:

Same trans blue color (I've only found solid blue color OLPs so I doubt it's OLP). Probably had the headstock painted and the logo is in the wrong position (plus no R trademark symbol after Stingray). Could be a Chinese knockoff too with a modded pickup.

Preamp might have been replaced too for a 3 band one (SD perhaps?).

Anyways, sorry for anyone who bought this thinking it was the real deal.

This could have been made from a kit, with some extra effort on the scammer's part... I put a Saga MB-10 (5 string) together, last year, and the A, D, and G string tuner placement, including string angle between the nut and tuners looks eerily similar...

... this is a pic of mine, with the string tree relocated... where it originally was made the strings looks like they were dancing on the headstock... notice angle of G string... a day after I took this pic, here's what happened...

... a little hard to tune, as well as intonate.

A pic of final product (Stinger, not Stingray, as if there was any doubt...), with solutions in the form of upgrades...

... 7 screws in the pickguard, as well. I must admit, the one questioned in this thread does have a nice finish...

Edit: Correction, FWIW... 6 screws, not 7... it's not even hardware correct enough to be a copy of a copy...!

Not that I would ever dream of doing it; but is it really this easy to fool GC employees? I mean, we see a thread like this at least every week, so it must be.

when i was working there we had a guitar salesman but in a fake ibanez JEM. i got a look at it before we shipped it off to corporate (i think it was corporate) and i have no idea how the guy didn't see the obvious signs. he was an ibanez guy, and we even had a real JEM in the store to compare it to. he nearly got canned over it.
