Is this a "real" vintage Hofner Violin Bass?

Hi folks!

I have a chance of buying a "vintage" Hofner Violin Bass. The owner said it is from the seventies, but it was refinished by a brazilian luthier and the electric was rebuild by a luthier in NYC (I don't know his name). I didn't find any serial number. Is this the "real deal"? How much it worth?

I don't have any experience on Hofners, so I can't differenciate the series...
Thanks

Old, but not a collector's item. Besides the refinish and missing pickguard, the control panel and switches are obviously not original. Here's a page that will help date various features. (Post 1967 blade pickups, headstock logos, etc.)

What's it worth? If you're looking for an investment, I'd pass on this.

As a daily player? If you like the way it feels and plays and looks and sounds, then compare it to your other options in the range of the seller's asking price.

Thanks... So it's "original", besides the refinish, pickguard and controls.

It sounds and plays like it should... The price the seller is asking is approximately the price of a new Hofner Contemporary here in Brazil. For the price and for this kind of bass, I think I can't buy anything better...

It looks like a 67 by the neck heel and the pick ups. After 67 the shape changed. They even refinned the headstock too... Why oh why? If it's worth good price and we player, go for it. It's been tampered with a bit too much if he wants alot of money. IMHO
