Hi all how are ye doing?

I very recently picked up an Ashdown RM-500 EVO I. Bought it brand new from Kytary.ie Guess it was on their shelves for a while as Ashdown haven't sold the EVO I for a while.

Plugged it in for the first time yesterday and am a bit surprised by the fan noise.

Now I know fans can be a contentious issue, some say it doesn't matter etc. But if you could take a quick look at this short video and see for yourself and let me know what you think. Im not that experienced, Im a drummer mainly and only used bass combos in the past when mucking around.

This sounds like a hoover in a wind tunnel:

I bought this amp new on the 7/03/22 and it arrived in my house less than a week ago from today (20/03/22) and was plugged in for the first time yesterday (19/03) as I had no cabs until yesterday. The noise of the fan is unbearable. Various people on basschat.co.uk agree from a video I posted that this is uncommonly loud and say there fans are quiet. So I think there is some sort of problem. I had planned on using this amp for a small duo/ trio that would be I quite small venues but that fan noise means its to an option. It sounds like a hoover.

I know when Im playing with a band going full beans you won't hear it, but acommpanying an acoustic with vocals in a small room you will hear it.

Many thanks

Yours is not the first complaint about noisy fans in the RM series.
I agree that it is noticeable in your video. If it bothers you that much, your options are either return it, repair it under warranty, or replace it yourself and void the warranty.

Definitely moving some serious air. You may need that much air to keep the components cool. Maybe you could find a fan that draws air out, as opposed to pushing it through.

Hmmm, usually when there's a "wind tunnel" sound going, you have a blown channel.

If it were the fan, it wouldn't come through the speaker. It's not connected to any output. It would just be a loud, sort of high pitch hum.

How did you conclude it’s coming from the speaker? The OP didn’t say that and the video is conclusive that it’s the fan when he walks behind the cabinet.

OP, sounds like you got some good advice. What country are you in using Kytary.ie ?
As ask becuause I lived in the Czech Republic for a year some years (10) back and I remember seeking a bass and shopping at the Prague Kytary shop for Fenders.
I recall them being a pretty well stocked brick and mortar shop ... they even had Phill Jones stuff and I recall them also having a Mesa Walkabout. Oh the memories

good luck with the Ashdown fan issue!

Im in ireland but yea its the shop based in the Czech Republic. Very easy to deal with. Just weird how they are selling these new (This is evo 1 not 2) they have been out of production for a while. I bought the 'last' one in stock and now on the site it says they will have another in stock in 2 weeks.
