Issue involving buyer

Hey guys... call me a bit paranoid here, but I might have an issue.

I've posted my Mesa Boogie amp up for sale on craigslist and kijiji, as well as TB Classifieds. I got an email from someone who saw my ad on craigslist.

This person asked a couple quick questions, then said she would buy the amp. She asked for my address, and said she would have a shipping company come pick the amp up. I gave her my address, she emailed me back asking for my Paypal info for a quick payment, and she assured me that her shipping company would contact me soon for pickup.

She hasn't even told me what company she is using, where she lives, I don't have any information on her other than A name and an e-mail address.

Now.. I've e-mailed her asking for her full address, phone number, full name (if different) and told her that I want all this information before I allow a Paypal payment.

Should I be doing all this before accepting payment? I felt weird right away when this buyer seems to be moving very fast.

I'm going to reverse look up her phone number, cross check her address, and make sure her paypal account is address verified.

Is there anything else I can do? Does this seem a bit fishy to anyone else?

Thanks

There a few PayPal requirements in order for you to qualify for seller protection. This is from their website:

11.3 Eligibility Requirements.

To be eligible for PayPal Seller protection, you must meet all of the basic requirements listed below under (a) Basic Requirements. To be covered for Item Not Received protection, you must meet both the Basic Requirements and the Item Not Received Additional Requirements listed below under (b). To be covered for Unauthorized Transaction protection, you must meet both the Basic Requirements and the Unauthorized Transactions Additional Requirements listed below under (c).

Basic Requirements:
You must ship the item to the shipping address on the Transaction Details Page.
You must respond to PayPal's requests for documentation and other information in a timely manner.
The item must be a physical, tangible good that can be shipped.
Your primary residence, as listed in your Account, must be in Canada.
Item Not Received Additional Requirements:
The payment must be marked “eligible” or “partially eligible” for PayPal Seller protection on the Transaction Details Page.

You must have a Proof of Delivery as described below in Section 11.4.

You must ship the item within 7 Days of receipt of payment. Or, if the payment is for pre-ordered or made-to-order goods, shipment is required within the timeframe specified in your item listing.

Unauthorized Transactions Additional Requirements:

The payment must be marked “eligible” for PayPal Seller protection on the Transaction Details Page.

You must have a Proof of Shipment or a Proof of Delivery.

Having a verified address is best, but you must ship to the address listed on the details page, or you will not be covered! If it were me, I would take the item to the shipping company myself, and get them to collect COD or have the buyer send them payment for the shipment immediately, and make sure it goes to the address PayPal has on file, or you won't be covered.

I have pretty limited experience with this myself, so hopefully someone else can chime in here.

I got an email from a moving company... what the heck is going on here...

Not a real moving company...run away!

and there is a delivery address listed in Toronto, Ontario in the e-mail..

I'm just giving you guys info as i get it right now. I'm obviously being very cautious about this. I'm waiting to receive all the info from this buyer... if I hear back at all.

I've handled a number of transactions via craigslist and have had great luck so far. There are a few conditions I adhere to, which I'm happy to share:

1. Only local transactions.
2. We ALWAYS meet in high-traffic public places for the transaction.
3. Cash only.
4. I don't go to transactions alone.
5. I always tell someone where I'm going, who I'm supposedly meeting, what they
will be driving, when I'll be back, etc.
6. There's a noticeable difference between illiteracy and fumbling through a
second language. Learn to spot it. ;)
7. I'm sure there are others, but those are my main points.

You may or may not find this link useful, but it's somewhere to start learning (from the misfortune of others, sadly): c*r*a*i*g*slist - PayPal - Nigeria Shipping

Hey, if you're dead set on giving away your Mesa, ship it to me. I'll pay all shipping charges AND tell everyone what a great human you are! :D

Oh jeebus xrist, how is it possible for somebody not to know that's a scam? Read the anti-scam warning page on CList. Do a google on common internet scams. This is one of the most common.

Easy... I won't even begin to list the ways someone could not know this is a scam.

Anyways, I had an idea it was a scam before I even started the thread, I started this thread to confirm it.

So you're condescending post really wasn't necessary.

You obviously didn't read the whole thread.

* Someone responds to a cl posting telling that they are interested and ship to this product to a specified address.
* They tell that they will pay via PayPal but don't tell when.
* Seller sends the package.
* And then wonders why there's no PayPal payment happening after a couple of weeks of waiting...

it blows my mind that anyone would fall for this.

shipping something without cleared payment? c'mon.

This is actually kind of funny... this buyer won't quit.

He keeps asking me for my paypal.

So finally i told him I would pay the shipping charges. There is no need to use his outside moving company. I could provide him a tracking number, so long as he has a paypal verified shipping address. Lol. I can't wait to see how he replies to this.
