Hi, I recently received a brand new Epiphone EB3 (SG) bass for my birthday and I've had quite a few issues with it since then. At first the bass kept cutting out and crackling, then the neck pickup stopped working altogether. I have since had this repaired and it works fine, but unfortunately the bass buzzes a great deal when I'm not in contact with the strings or any of the metal hardware (I believe this is a grounding problem). Another problem I've had is that the volume and tone knobs for each pickup have no effect. Volume wise, it is "on" from 1 to 10, and cuts out without any gradual fading when it goes beneath 1, and tone wise, there is no change in tone at all until it is below 1. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get my bass working properly without spending too much money (if any!). Thanks in advance.

Make sure that the entire pickup and control cavities are shielded. You can do this yourself with either copper tape or shielding paint (I personally like tape better). Then it might be a good idea to replace the pots, cap and wiring with better grade components. This shouldn't be very expensive, especially if you do it yourself.
