I realize they're very different beasts, but what j-shaped pickup would get closest to the sound of the (G&L) M-series pickups? I'm fine with something that's even down the street from the ballpark. I've got a feeling it would be something like a Dimarzio Model J or Warm & Wooly Nordstrand Big J Blade.

Thoughts?

Bardens. I used a set for awhile in a Fender Jazz V, and have often described them as two thirds traditional J pickup mixed with one third G&L MFD humbucker. They have ceramic magnets, and relatively high, full-range output like MFD's, but still sound J-like especially on the D and G strings. I have an M-2500 and SB-2 (and a Comanche guitar), and used to have an L-1500, so I'm familiar with MFD pickups.

DiMarzio's Model J might produce a similar tone. I don't know because I've never tried them, but FWIW I think their Model P is similar to the mighty MFD split-coil in the SB-1 and SB-2.

Anyone know the approximate radius on those single coil big j blades?
