The dated cover art, font, mixing, mastering & brutal synth patches actually help my stance these covers are a corny idea.
It is music for shops that sell decorative dried plants, scented candles and hand dyed scarves or flavored coffee beans.
The bass playing is beautiful, though!

The cover art is fine... I don't usually buy / not buy music based upon the album cover artwork.

I would have preferred more percussion in the mix.
Can you elaborate on your criticism of the "mastering"? My understanding of "mastering", is that the intended "mastering" is also dependent upon the listener's playback system?
I think the synth patches are deliberately (sonically) translucent so as not to compete with the sound and projection of the bass.
I really like the even-eighths, 6/4 groove and how JA explores and supports that time signature, while sometimes implying more of a 3/2 feel.
I guess the comments about "...shops..." is meant to be your lighthearted way of mocking this performance. Did I get that right, at least?
Finally, I guess you and I both wish we could play that in tune on a recording, huh?

The main reason I still keep and play my 33s is the pleasure I get from having the highly readable LP record jacket on my lap as I'm listening. I remember all of my many albums by the cover art, not their titles.
Right now for cover design is more important than ever - a great cover may not make or break someone hearing the album, however it is often the difference between the listener buying a CD/tape/LP or DL.

That is an album of sound poetry by the founder of the Dada movement Hugo Ball from 1916! The cover is from the Texas art duo The Art Guys, who are related to the Fluxus movement which wasealso called neo-Dada.
Sometimes the cover needs make sense more than it needs to be elegant - of course the design around the drawing is very nice, and the drawing itself has it's own charm!
That album is on it's third pressing, so it worked out!
This one we had to go for it even more - this trio played in the gallery of a very famous homo-erotic artist Delmas Howe and we were all three struck by the power of this painting and had to ask for for the cover:
My "ideal" is more like this, with a Cy Twombly sculpture on the cover, but sometimes other forces are at work!
