Jazz Bass S1 Switch Diagram

I’m installing an S1 switch in a Jazz Bass I have laying around. I’d like the ability to switch between series and parallel. Can’t seem to find the wiring diagrams.

There are old threads with references to them and dead links. Fender’s link to the diagram is also broken and/or removed.

Anyone have that diagram or the know-how to help me recreate it?

Before you suggest installing a DPDT toggle I want to say that the s1 is what I want to use. I have one left over from a tele build and I quite like using it on my other guitars.

Thanks for your help

We can certainly extrapolate the wiring.
First, this will get our bearings on the S1 switch. It's a 4PDT, effectively two DPDT switches without independence of operation.

Then the DPDT switch here will inform our wiring...

For simplicity, I'll use pole 1 and 2. Choose whichever poles/groups that make the most sense for the wire management.

So now we send the hot wire from the bridge PU to the B tab of pole 1 on the S1 and the ground wire of the neck pickup to the B tab of pole 2.
Bridge the two A tabs of the two poles with a wire.
Now use a wire to connect the C tab of pole 1 to the middle lug of the bridge volume control and another wire for the C tab of pole 2 to ground.
That should do it. Pressing down on the switch will be series, up will be parallel.

Thank you very much my friend! I’ll wire it up this weekend and give this a shot.

I wanted to take what you wrote and put it into a diagram. I’m just so much better when I can SEE what I’m wiring. I wanted to post it here for future reference and other folks looking for it. If you don’t mind, give this a once over and let me know if this is what you had in mind.

The only tweak I had to make was grounding the neck pickup pot. Since I can just bend the post back and ground it to itself I ground it to the back of the closest pot. You think this will suffice?

Thanks again!
