With the local Craigslist posting of a free Hammond B3 and Leslie (to which there has still been no response to my inquiry), I just HAD to listen to some Joey DeFranceso. The guy is an insane musician. I saw him live a few years back. Playing bass with his feet and comping chords with his left hand WHILE PLAYING TRUMPET with his right hand. Anyway, just listen to the bass line he lays down in this. He's holding down the basic line with his feet, and walking with his left hand. Just brutal! And the overdrive is epic! I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

There was a guy back in Idaho who played in an organ trio that I got to see a couple of times before he passed away. Played better walking bass with the pedals then I can most times. Not that that’s saying much, but still...

Joey is awesome. Check out his work with Michael Brecker

Joey worked with Michael Brecker? I thought that was Larry Goldings.

I agree that he is awesome!

Joey did a couple of things with Randy Brecker that I'm aware of. There's one track on Youtube that is supposedly Joey and Michael

And in addition to being a phenomenal musician, Joey is also a really nice guy. It was hotter than blazes here when he played the Jacksonville Jazz Festival in May of 2014 My son and I ran "the gauntlet" to the backstage area looking for an autograph, running along the fence hollering "Joey!". I'd brought the "oil card" for my Hammond H-182 to get his autograph on (because Hammonds don't have pickguards, tort or otherwise) and was holding it over the fence. The backstage guy was saying "no autograghs" and such. And then Joey hollers "Wait! That's a Hammond oil card! Meet me at the gate!" He came up and gave me his autogragh, told the backstage guy to fetch a couple bottles of water, and we chatted for a good 10 minutes or more. Really cordial guy.

Way cool.

I oil my Warwick from time to time, but I dont have a card for it.

You silly goose. :smug: But for the unaware, back in the days when real Hammond organs had real tonewheel generators, start and run motors and all sorts of other electro-mechanical goodness (surely you didn't think the weight was all wood did you?), there was a recommended yearly maintenance schedule. The most important thing on the list was the oiling of the various bearings in the organ. New Hammonds came with a card to log the maintenance, akin to the little sticker your oil-change place put on your windshield. oil card.jpg oil card2.jpg
