John East J-Retro Pre-amp thoughts

I bough a Squier 77 Vintage Modified Jazz bass and decided to take out the stock pre-amp and put in the J-Retro.

The stock electronics sound great, btw... here's what I learned:

In active mode, if you roll the bass all the way off, the Active tone sounds like the Passive tone. It looks like the bump comes in the low end.

After adjusting the pickup height and switching between active/passive and front/back getting balance tone, I like the J-Retro a lot better now!

Had one in a 2004 Jazz bass. Very nice but pricy preamp
