I like it. I have only messed around with it for an hour but it’s a good drive/ boost for $84. Pretty good range of tones and adds some mild grit. I like that you have the mid and bass switches to choose your frequency.

So if I go out the Thru to the amp, is the pedal effect bypassed? Just acts as a boost?

Pedal will be totally bypassed. The Sansamp that the Tidal Wave is based on has an amp sim and cab sim built into it to help the FOH sound when you don't have a rig behind you. Lots of folks don't like the sound of that going into their actual amp, so, there is the thru where you can send the effected amp and cab sim sound to FOH and send your uneffected bass sound to your amp.

But there are some who like that sound going through the front of their amp. I would just try it both ways and see what you like. Everyone is different and that is great!

OR... you could buy the original and support the company that did the R&D to bring new products to our community. Joyo isn't doing anything but copying other people's work

I think everyone that wants a Precision or Jazz style bass, should support the company that did the R&D, Fender, to bring new products to our community.

Fender could have protected its products from infringement but waited half a century to do so (2008). Why Fender didn't choose to protect its IP is a mystery to me.
For the most part, I don't like clone instruments either. You'll see me saying the same thing about alibaba Dingwall clones

These are just slight refinements of classic analog electronic designs that are easily traceable back to the 1930s. There are only so many ways you can make variations on basic EQ circuits and distortion. This is no different to auto manufacturers copying the same basic 4 wheel 3 box car design or production line techniques that Ford implemented first. Or using a smart phone that's not an Apple.
to bring new products to our community.
New and innovative to Fender is a different colour.
