Just another informative setup vid!

Hey, gang!

I've seen a few threads regarding setup lately. Quite a few. In turn, I'm gonna leave this here. Dan is cool, adventurous, and informative so go ahead and give him a sub!

Some rather poor guidelines in this video. I would not recommend it. Check the setup videos in the sticky at the top of this forum for much better guides.

Can you explain what you mean by poor guidelines?
For instance, setting the nut height first is not a good idea - it does not control the overall height of the strings on the fretboard as suggested. And the gap recommended of 1mm or less is extremely large. Using a small ruler in the nut slut can also give a false reading especially on the D and G strings - the square edge of the ruler will not sit at the bottom of a rounded slot. Adjusting the nut by filing the bottom does not account for inaccuracies in individual string slots. Neck relief should not be measured by holding the string at the first and last fret - it will give a false reading if there is even a minor ski jump. The maximum relief does not occur between the 9th and 15th fret unless there is a serious problem with the neck - it will occur between the 6th and 8th frets. When adjusting, he checks the relief with the bass on the bench, which will be a different reading that when the bass is in playing position. A difference in relief from one side of the neck to the other is not an indicator of a twisted neck. 1mm of relief is about 3 times what it should be. And on and on.....
