Just picked up a Spector Euro 4LX. Got my eyes on GK rig. Thoughts?

IMO the Spector/G-K pairing is a great match. I mostly dial my tweeters to the “Off” position. But my guess is a Spector bass won’t necessarily damage a tweeter in a cabinet. My NS4CRFM has an EMG P/J setup, which can sound pretty bright, but that also can be tamed with the amp’s eq. And I found G-K’s eq system to have an incredible amount of tonal variation.

At one time, my Spector NS4CRFM, (which was the predecessor to the Euro Series basses) and a G-K 2000RB into an SWR Goliath 4-10” cabinet was my main setup. I played countless gigs with this setup.

I also used my NS4CRFM into a G-K 1001RB 2-10” combo for smaller rooms, and it did a fantastic job.

It will sound fantastic, but you should really either downgrade the wattage to the 700RB, or upgrade the amount of speaker to maybe 2 2x12s. For rock and funk, 2 12s is probably OK for small to medium gigs. If you play bigger/louder gigs (obviously I mean during normal times), with the 1001 and the 2 12s, you will be more likely to push the amp and very likely destroy the speakers. I think those speakers are only rated 300w each and I think the 1001 is like 750w or so at 4 ohms. Certainly you can operate that safely if you use caution and vigilance, but you will be a lot safer with the more modest 550 or so of the 700RB.

So if your gigs are more modest, I say go with the 700RB. Otherwise you should really think hard about adding more speaker.

You should also get a slight headroom boost using the biamp mode, so I wouldn't worry too much about "only" having 480w with the 700RB (I looked it up, the 1001 is 700w). Everyone these days seems to think you need 1000w or more for coffee shop gigs, but people in the 70s were making ears bleed with like 120w. My main amps are basically between 600 and 900, but I don't really "need" that much, and especially if you have an appropriate amount of speaker (which is a bigger factor in volume and tone anyway, than just wattage), you will be more than fine.

I think I'm going to stick with the 1001rb and go with 2 x 212s. Plan on playing outdoor shows etc. Thanks for the advice guys.

Excellent choice for an outdoor gig setup, IMO. A 1001RB into a pair of 212’s will also cover any large hall gig.

I’m a big believer in high wattage solid state power and a decent amount of speaker cone area. With a setup like yours, you’re never going to stress any part of your rig at higher volume.

And for medium sized rooms, haul the 1001RB and a single 2-12”.
