Kid Culver Collaboration With LA Trumpet Player

The tune is aptly called, 'One Take'. I was at my buddy's place in Hollywood waiting for my buddy on trumpet to come by and lay down horn on a song I had been working on for a few months. 10 minutes before he came by, "I've got an idea. Let's try this real quick. Might as well since he's about to be here. Let's try it out". I lay down one take of the idea.

We work for a few hours on the other tune. We are wrapping up the session and I'm like, "let's give this idea a shot".

He does one take and kills it. All together 5 minutes of work on bass, 5 minutes of work on trumpet, and 5 minutes to set up the beat.

I love when an idea comes together easy and quick. We are going to record it with live drums, guitar, and keys. Let me know what you guys think so far. Merry Christmas!

Nice jam, the drummer is kicking it pretty good. Like the way he moves from the pie pans to the high hat. Nice groove work on bass too.

Played on the same bill with ev-dub at he UBar in early sept. He's good.

Thanks man. I've recently stopped being afraid to play with other folks and just groove. It's playing off. Haha, yup sure was his dad, how did you know? He's a great bass player himself. Power lifting and bass playing, that's about all I do these days. That's were the strong hands come in. Thanks again for watching.

Trumpet player here...with a name like that I thought there'd be some delay or reverb at least, maybe envelope ring mod. Dude sounds like a lead player (or wannabe lead player) who needs to warm up---his tone is pinched, kind of dank and mid rangey, not yet mellow and the high end is not relaxed...mouthpiece might be too small for good tone, this kind of sound goes away when the player learns to relax after years of playing...what kind of mic was it at what distance?...needs a cut maybe 1400hz. I Love the bass groove, and sound btw. here's a trumpet player the master, Randy Brecker- N.P. Molvaer Cuong Vu at Berklee Coll
