I know this is discussed in many many threads and there is a very funny thread on sticky;
Help! I need to get rid of that new string sound!
There are stories of very famous people running butter, mayones or greasy sauces to strings for that Jamerson tone or 6 month + old broken in strings
I didn't want to resurrect that because I actually have a cheap af solution and I'm after your likes
Behold;
I've been introduced to this by my luthier 15 years ago and I though It was a very well known fact but posts here prove otherwise.
It is a silicion based grease oil used for plumbing installations or machinery where metal/brass parts meet plastic parts etc.
From official site ''It is a silicone grease for filling and lubricating in the combination of plastic, metal and rubber materials. It's odorless. It delays dirt and moisture, reduces noise. It can be used in seal assemblies for maintenance purposes, e.g. O-ring, etc., and prevents embrittlement.''
It is almost made for bass guitar by the defined components
By rubbing It lightly between string winds and cleaning any excess you actually increase the weight of the string a bit, giving It that 6 month old broken in strings vibe but without actually damaging It and making It more even all around than naturally old strings.
I'm still at same bottle after 15 years. It is non toxic to human skin and can't damage any material that exist in your instrument. It actually protects the string by infiltrating between windings so your corrosive sweat and oil can't, thus producing longer string life
Now gimme that likes lol
