Double Bass Kim Cass(!!!)

I’m surprised that Kim Cass hasn’t (at least as far as I can see) come up here on TB. He is an absolute monster. I’ve been a fan of his playing with Noah Preminger, especially on the album Contemptment.

His new record, Levs, just came out on Bandcamp. It’s definitely a challenging listen, but damn. His grasp of complex polyrhythms is mind blowing and his pizz technique…

If you ignore the cover and all the pot references in the titles, this album is also completely amazing.

Listening to them now, wow, very talented! Thanks for sharing! I'm curious, however, why you state "if you ignore the cover and all the pot references in the titles, this album is also completely amazing"? What do you mean by that?
I really just mean that when I see that cover and those song titles I imagine very different music. If I wasn’t already into their music I might have passed it up. So, I guess it’s a bit of “don’t judge the book by the cover”

I really appreciate your reply ,thanks for your candor. It's interesting to consider how album covers and song titles can influence us in what we give our attention to, isn't it? Also what we feel and pull out of a composition, especially an instrumental one, outside of what the artist 'names' it, which obviously colors our perception of a piece.
