KNOW YOUR BASS PLAYER - Gary Van Scyoc – John Lennon Meets Chuck Berry

In February 1972, John Lennon and Yoko Ono co-hosted The Mike Douglas Show – a daytime television talk /variety program that was considered light fare – even though many social and political activists were regular guest. Among the guests that week were Ralph Nader, Jerry Rubin, Dr. Jesse Steinfeld, and John’s most revered rock and roll hero – Chuck Berry. Plastic Ono Elephant’s Memory Band bassist Gary Van Scyoc recalls the historic performance with John, Chuck, and the band. Interviewer / Writer: Tom Semioli. Producer: Mark Preston. So great to see this. Elephant's Memory were an excellent rock 'n' roll band. I was in the front row when they played at the Anderson Theater in NYC that year (also on the bill: Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker), and at one point Gary caught me watching him with my mouth hanging open, and he grinned at me.
I remember that he was playing a Fender Jazz Bass with natural finish and a rosewood neck. (But I can't remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday, etc., etc. :D)
