Hey so I know how to slap bass by basically whipping the bone part of the side of my thumb off the string and I would like help from you guys to figure out to slap bass with up and down strokes like how victor wooden does it and it can do the down stroke it's just the up stroke that's hard to figure out and I've already tried practicing this for hours before and don't know if it's just something you keep trying and get it after awhile or if there's and certain way to do it.

Well, if anyone knows the secret, please share - I'd be happy to be able to slap with any version of the technique. Though Vic is indeed a master of the double thump. I think my hand just doesn't work that way or something.

thump down and past the string, and then when you bring your thumb back up, let it pull on the string. That's a double thump. The way I got fast with it was to just walk around all day doing it. After that, add the double and triple plucks. It's easier if you have what I call "hitchhiker thumb" or a thumb shaped like Victor's.

ok but when you do it do you up stroke with the side of your thumb or the nail part

Well in my opinion probably, the up stroke is the most personal movement of the double thumb.
Most of the people like to do with the nail of the thumb, in my case i like to play it with the left side of the thumb even it's a bit painful at begin.
Anyway try to approach at the technique in the most comfortable way for you, because the up stroke need to be the perfect prosecution of the down stroke, so if the up/down movement is similar than you have more chance to improving quickly your DT technique.
I attached some of my video where with the camera view you can watch when the up stroke come and how merge it in a bass line, both groove or melodies.
If you need any help just let me know.
Ciao!
