Back in 1983 Rose Royce played Rotterdam - Netherlands.

This video (Audio only) is a live footage of a song called Carwash they played that night.

I remember the band was excellent, it was a great show.

At 45 seconds into the song Lequient Jobe steps up in front of the band and starts a Bass Solo.

At the end of his solo he was down on his knees flat on his back, hammering the bass with two hands.
The crowd, me included, went crazy.

I know he had a steep fall and I never see his name on any Bass Player top-whatever list, but I do think he was (is?) a great Bass Player.

Have a listen and enjoy!

There is a cable TV show in the US called "Unsung". They did an episode on Rose Royce, including a lot of time on Lequient Jobe and his situation. Worth watching if you can find it. In the meantime, here is a piece of a video documentary on homelessness that featured a segment on Duke.

Wow, thank you for posting that. Very touching.

During the concert, the great bass-playing was already amazing but he was also dancing and! singing at the same time.
He made it look so easy, which it is not.

Do your dance and make you feel like dancing are indeed a funk-fest.

Happy to see he gets some atenttion on TB.

In Full Bloom is a great R&B/Funk album.
Very tasteful playing on "Wishing On A Star"...Funk-fest on "Do Your Dance".
