Let's Have Some Fun: Top 5 Most Underrated Rock Bassists?

Here's my very arguable list, from least to most underrated:

5. Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads)
4. Chris Wolstenholme (Muse)
3. Mike Kerr (Royal Blood)
2. John Deacon (Queen)
1. Ronnie Lane (The [Small] Faces)

Keep in mind this is not a list of my absolute favorites (though at least three make that list, too), but a list involving those I feel are too under the radar. Feel free to discuss. :D

Who are yours?

Wasn't it actually bassist Jerry Scheff that laid down the low end for the The Doors recordings? I may be mistaken but I believe I read that in his book @Flashback Bass

Yes, Jerry Scheff played bass on the studio recordings but I'm pretty sure he played the bass lines that Ray wrote and had been playing live. The only reason they had a bass guitar for the recordings is because it had more punch/attacK then the Fender keyboard bass.

Actually, Scheff played on L.A. Woman and American Prayer only. Many session bassists played with the Doors, but only Doug Lubahn was actually invited to join the band at some point.

There's a lot of misconceptions about the Doors bass position, like the idea that Manzarek's left hand is all you hear on the studio records, which is simply not true.

Underrated, or not talked about? IMHO there is a big difference. It's one thing to say that Ronnie Lane sucks - that's underrated. It's another thing if he just never comes up in discussions. For the record, I love Ronnie Lane - most bass players today don't have 1/100 of his creativity.

Also there is a lot of crying on TB when someones favorite root/5th player isn't declared GREAT. For some people 'good' isn't good enough.

For actually underrated bass players I pick Gene Simmons. I think he gets a lot of hate because he's a jerk, not because he's a bad player. When I listen to him, I don't see the problem.
