Letting Out the Magic Smoke!

I thought I would share a story with all you...

A friend of mine is kind of a drunk tinker'er when it comes to his guitars. He gets off of work and then buys a Daiquiri to help him enjoy his evening. Nothing wrong with that in it self however towards the bottom of his drink he gets the urge to start messing with his guitars and basses. Typically this results in guitars with poor intonation and pickup heights but nothing that can't be fixed.

The other week after his usual beverage of choice he decides that he wants to open up his Ibanez bass and "take a look at the preamp". Neither of us are sure exactly what he did but the next day he plugged in his bass and started to play. A few seconds after plugging it in started making "weird noises" and he noticed a bad smell... Well it was all down hill from there. He popped open the control cavity and sure enough all the magic blue smoke comes wafting out... The preamp board is scorched. He said that he thinks he may have reversed the battery connection...

Let this be a lesson to you all. Don't drink and tinker.

I know people who make awful mistakes even if they don't drink at all,as well as persons wich are perfectly functional after a few beers or shots of something. Not that I advocate the booze consumption, but still...
...a fried Ibanez preamp,not a big deal. ;)
Luckily, this friend of yours doesn't repair tube amps (or not yet...) :D
