locked out 2FA, anything I can do?

Several days ago, I tried to sign in under my accout "Mikeoso", which had never been on 2FA. TB called for 2FA anyway, and then never sent the verification code. Tried repeatedly, never got one. Obviously, couldnt turn off 2FA, or seek admin help. Eventually I created this new account so I could get back in. Really rather have my old account working. What to do?

Wouldn't you need to be logged in to change your profile? And OP can't log in because 2FA's preventing it...

We used to call this "deadly embrace".
That step I mentioned can be completed to reset MFA once the account is recovered, which can be done in this situation.
There's nothing deadly about it.

The story this far:
1. In order to get in and get help, I set up a new account name, this one.
2. I learned that the original issue was that TB identified a compromised password on my original account, thus the 2FA.
3. I learned that I needed to reset the password for the original account.
4. When I tried that, TB kept defaulting the reset to the NEW account, since both have the same email.

So...do I need to cancel the new account, thus letting the reset apply to the old account? If so, where/how do I cancel the new account?

Excellent. How do we do that?
Use the Contact Us button at the bottom of the page. On my browser on my phone, that button is in the bottom left corner. It may be elsewhere for you depending on browser, theme, etc but you'll see it at the bottom of every page here.
Provide the details you know about your previous account so we can assist. The TalkBass admin and moderator team is made up of fellow bass players with families, jobs, gigs and so on like everyone else. It may take us a minute to get it sorted out, but we'll take a look.
Once it's all sorted out, the accounts can be merged into one so you are using the email you want to and have the username (with it's history) you want to.

So, as I said, you can't log in to change your profile if 2FA won't allow you to log in. External intervention is required.

Well, the OP is logged in.
The question is what happens the next time I am asked to authenticate, not how do I log in and authenticate. The authenticator app is not recoverable, not the TalkBass member account. You can say this member is being proactive and asking how to fix this now, instead of waiting until they are not logged in to TalkBass with no access to the 2FA token.
In the scenario you have turned it into, yes external intervention from the TalkBass admin team is required.

As it turns out, this whole series of shenanigans was because my (this name) account still was listed with the email I had when I joined, which I havent used in ten years. So the TB notifications of possibly compromised password AND the verification codes for 2FA AND the calls to reset password were being sent...I just wasnt seeing them. So, no blame attaches to TB in this, it's all on me.

TB identified my password as possibly compromised, and asked me to change it. The warning went to my old email (which I didnt even know was still on the account). So the system set a 2FA. When I tried to use it, the verification code...went to my old email. I was told that to get in and turn off 2FA, I just needed to reset my password...but when I tried, the response... went to my old email. One of the admins then took time to check things out, and let me know what was going on, and changed the email from their end.

Hardly the fault of the system or the admins.
