Sold my American special fender jazz (possibly worst mistake I've ever made) after leaving my band and bought a second hand warwick rock bass 5 string (Also another bad move). Hadn't picked it up in over a year but when I eventually did I had fallen out of love for it. Now looking for a 4 string, nothing too fancy as I'll be only playing at home, but something that will get me excited when I pick it up. Loved everything about my jazz, previous to that I had an epiphone sg that had a horrible varnish on the neck which made it almost impossible to move fast. Before that I had an epiphone thunderbird which I could not fault one bit (apart from the neck heavy cliche). Always loved the look and sound of spectors. Can afford around 600. Heard mixed reviews of schecter stiletto also. Any suggestions will be considered.

G&L Kiloton...$550 or so on reverb, make an offer on some or get it with 15% off at Guitar Center.
You won't find better for the money.

My first L2000 was a Tribute...brand new for $525.
Seller on Ebay had quite a few for a while back in early 2017.
Haven't seen him there lately.

I bought a used L2500 Tribute a little over a year ago with a hard case for $500. Amazing quality for a bass in that price range even used. Tobacco Burst over ash. Gorgeous finish and super versatile as you know as well. Now I have my eye on a Kiloton. :D

Sounds like you're "at home" on a Jazz. And since you obviously don't need to impress anyone with what's on the headstock, take some time to explore the full range of options, both Fender and non-Fender.

You might be able to find a Spector Legend in that price range. Whether or not the Legend will deliver the Spector tone you have in mind is another thing. Like many entry-level instruments, certain compromises have been made to keep the instrument more affordable.

Noticed there are some very different opinions on whether it makes that much difference on a Spector. People who've played them all say even the entry levels are amazing. Managed to find a legend neck thru for a decent price and it's available on finance. Just never played one so wouldn't want to jump at one and not like it. And yes like you said I am very much at home on a jazz so anything similar would be perfect. Thanks

These are sleepers, but can be had for $450-ish used from Reverb.

PRS SE Kestrel (Jazz) (3 on the right)
PRS SE Kingfisher (HH) (3 on the left)

I have the Kestrel, and for the price, it’s a steal. It does have a finished neck, though, so not sure if that is a deal breaker for you or not.

I have never played one but you could get a Sire V7 for under $600 new. They seem to have a strong following. I've seen a lot of people comment specifically on the preamp, which is supposed to be one of the best at that price point. Unfortunately I don't think they are sold in local stores.

Somehow I completely forgot about prs, I know their guitars are meant to be top notch, but can I expect the same from a bass??
