Hi all, I'm looking for a preamp to go with a set of Lakland LH3 pickups, to be used mostly for rock and pop. I'd like to be able to utilize the series/parallel/single option on the bridge pickup, and have an active/passive switch as well. 2 or 3 band eq isn't a huge deal to me. Is my best bet to look for a LH3 preamp used, or is there something else out there that fills those criteria? Forgive the ignorance, I'm new to active electronics. thanks

The series/parallel pickup switching is done outside of the preamp, and an active/passive switch can be applied to any preamp.
That said, what are you looking for tone-wise?
Aguilar preamps seem to be very transparent and clean-sounding, yet very powerful. Bartolini preamps add a bit of their own flavor to the preamp, somewhat "coloring" the sound...if you like that sort of thing. They have a bit more "grit and growl" to them.
I happen to prefer each preamp for different basses, though...

There is at least a dozen more preamps to choose from...how much do you want to spend?

I'm looking for something flexible tonally, but generally I'm looking for something with a strong, focused and punchy attack to match my heavy-handed fingerstyle playing. I'm really looking to spend less than $150, but being new to this, I'm not sure if that's feasible.

An Aguilar OBP-3 is very powerful and very flexible. They can be had for as little as $120 depending on pot configuration and up to $220 if you want the reseller (BestBassGear) to solder it all up for you deforestation it ships.
