Looking for a small amp: TC Electronics BH550 vs. Tech21 VTBass 500 vs. Peavey Mini MAX

I have used my friends (almost exclusively) BH, when jamming for practice the past few months. I'm never dragging a rig to practice, & honestly his was there so even got tired of lugging my Mini Max. I, now, don't even care to do practice routine at home on the Mini any longer. It isn't bad, but in certain settings, was hard to dial up the tone I wanted, but worked for practice. Side by side, it sounds wonky in comparison, and the "quirks" seem much more noticeable when at home. Have used as primary, then back up, a boat anchor Peavey power amp, never skipped a beat, and like everyone else, at one time or another have jammed on new or old, beat up or shiny, Peavey combos...cause they're a great value, built like tanks, and are reliable as the sun will rise. But side by side, 3 basses (German Wick, AM Jazz & US G&L), 4 & 5 string, if I was gonna do it again, I'd go BH all day long. For what it's worth.

I've had the VT 500 for about 9 months now and absolutely love it. Gig a few times a month and have gotten nothing but compliments. I'm using it with 2 Hartke Hydrive 112 cabs. I usually use it on the "Flip top" setting but find it's a lot more versatile than I thought it would be.

I've never tried the BH550 but have logged some time on the Peavey. I like it a lot but like a few other people I found the fan a bit too loud at low volumes.

Looking for small but powerful amp head. My three alternatives are:
• TC Electronics BH550
• Tech21 VTBass500
• Peavey Mini MAX
Pros and cons and comparisons welcome:)

Out of the many makes & models of lightweight, compact bass amps now available on the market, the obvious question is: 'Why these three in particular?' Are there qualities that all three of these happen to share, that convinced you to put all of them on your short list? If so, what are those factors?

One always wonders whether there are purchase criteria in effect that you've not shared with your fellow TalkBassers; criteria that might ultimately be used to make a better choice.

These three are in the price range I can afford. Also, they have around 500W output.
